1. Suppose you are doing the same thing. Admit that you also cut in front of another driver, too… sometimes by accident. Do you get angry at yourself?
2. Try counting to ten before exploding. This may not address the anger directly, but it can minimize the damage you can do.
3. Visualize a relaxing experience. Close your eyes, and travel there in your mind. Create your stress-free oasis.
4. Ask yourself: “Did that person do this to me on purpose?” Often, you will see that they were just careless or in hurry, and really did not mean you cause any harm.
5. Ask yourself: “Will this thing years from now?” Chances are, you will see things from a calmer perspective.
6. Ask yourself: “What is the worst consequence?” If someone cut in front of you at the book store check-out, you will probably find that four minutes isn’t big deal.
7. Try out some new variations of counting to ten. For example, try counting to ten with a slow breathe in between each number. Deep breathing — from your diaphragm — helps people relax.
8. Try pacing your numbers as you count. “One-bottle-two-, etc.” Bottles aren’t maybe the best devices to reduce your steam. How about “One-chocolate-cake-two-chocolate-cakes”, or use anything else that you find pleasant or enjoyable.
