Oxygen is supplied to the heart through the blood that passes through coronary arteries. It can be the reason of blocked coronary arteries, that particular portion of the heart gets damaged due to the adequate supply of oxygen-rich blood. Heart attack can result in the death of affected heart tissues and in many cases become fatal.
Heart attack can often be the result of build-up of plaque and inflammation of arteries, this process narrows the coronary arteries and reduces the amount of oxygen rich blood that is required to the heart muscles. These arteries are more likely to develop blood clots that hamper the heart by blocking blood supply. This process then results in heart attack. The risk factors may include high cholesterols levels and excessive stress.
Symptoms of heart attacks
High cholesterol levels and accumulation of fats in the walls of arteries show higher risks of getting a heart attack. As mentioned above heart attacks last for very few time, and hence the symptoms associated are very frequent. Some typical symptoms include weakness, fatigue, dizziness, backache and feeling of indigestion. Chest pain is the main or the basic symptom that is associated with the occurrence of heart attack. Chest pains can vary, like some may feel tightness, squeezing pressure or fullness in the chest. This pain then can radiate to shoulders, back, neck, jaws or arms.
Preventions for heart attacks
The most effective treatment associated with heart attacks uses multifaceted approach. In most of the cases, preventative care is aimed, that includes cutting down of the cholesterol levels and maintaining the health of heart by keeping your body fit. Some general preventative measures include, not smoking, eating a heart healthy diet, following regular exercise, keeping weight under control, going for regular medical check- ups, managing or reducing stress and controlling the levels of blood pressure and cholesterol.
