Use relaxing pictures to manage stress
Article by Rei Picasso
Have you ever wondered how to deal with stressful situations ? Modern science offers many drugs and therapies to deal with stress and panic attacks. However what can we do if we don’t want to rely on such chemicals ?
One of my favorite ways in to listen to relaxing sounds such as nature sounds like thunderstorms or the sounds of the ocean. There are many websites dedicated to providing these such sounds. Some of the best ones also loops their sounds so you can listen continuously over and over again to get the maximum relaxing benefit.
Another favorite way of mine to deal with stress is to look at visually relaxing pictures. Images of pristine beaches with deep blue water, vibrant green rain forest foliage, fluffy little clouds floating in the sky, kittens sleeping all safe and sound. There are many kinds of images out there that can help you deal with stress. Something I like to do is simply google image search for words like “calm”,”soothing” plus “photo”. If you also use the “large” size selection, you can find some stunning relaxing images !
Another traditional image that can manage stress is an image combined with a meditation practice. Such images, known as mandalas allow you to focus your thoughts on the center of the mandala resulting in your forgetting about whatever was stressing you in the first place. In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be used for focusing the mind of aspirants and adepts, as a spiritual teaching aid, for establishing a sacred environment, and as an aid to meditation and trance creation. The psychoanalyst Carl Jung saw the mandala as “a representation of the unconscious self,”and believed his paintings of mandalas enabled him to identify emotional disorders and work towards wholeness in personality.
Once you have a good collection of relaxing pictures on your computer then next step is to use a slideshow software or set the images as your screensaver or desktop background. I prefer the desktop background method as it allows me to see the image while I’m busy working and moving between applications. It provides a constant relaxation shot if you like ! My friend had a good trick where he burnt a lot of images onto a DVD so he could play them on his wide screen TV. If you get large sized images in high quality resolution they look amazing on the latest digital widescreen TVs and provide for a very nice backdrop in your living room .
